Another DHSC consultation has been launched to discern how the government plans to implement the McCloud Remedy.
This is the plan to alleviate the deemed age discrimination caused by moving some members of the NHS pension to the 2015 scheme.
The first consultation last year considered how the legacy pension schemes would close at the end of March 2022 and all members would be moved to the new 2015 scheme in April.
The second part of the plan is to consider how impacted NHS members can claim their remedial benefits. Affected members will be able to choose between remedial benefits from their new scheme or from their legacy scheme for their service during the remedy period which is between 1 April 2015 and 31 March 2022. Crucially, they do not need to decide which option to take until they retire.
The remedy is due to be implemented from 1 October 2023. The consultation will run for 12 weeks until June 2023.
