Hundreds of thousands missing NHS pension payments

Have you taken your 1995 NHS pension benefits at your normal retirement age? New data shows that over 200,000 NHS pension scheme members have not collected their pension payments because they did not realise crucial rules have changed.

Members of the 1995 Section can take their benefits from age 60 – or even from age 55 if specialist roles.

Flexible retirement options were brought in last year which mean doctors can take their 1995 retirement benefits while continuing to work. Sadly, many doctors have not taken those payments which will now be lost as they cannot be backdated.

Members can also now continue to accrue benefits in their new 2015 Scheme meaning there is little reason not to take 1995 benefits.

The value of investments and the income they produce can fall as well as rise. You may get back less than you invested.
